Volunteer to build homes in partnership with families in need!

Where is the construction site located?
Habitat for Humanity is currently building homes at IK BAR in Gypsum. The construction site address is 283 Bison Lane, Gypsum, CO 81637. From I-70, take the Gypsum exit (140). Head south on Valley Rd./Gypsum Creek Rd. for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Grundel Way. Just after passing Red Hill Elementary School, turn left into the fenced in parking area. There is a large yellow track mat at the entrance to the parking area. Park on the left/east side of the parking area. To walk to the construction site, exit the parking area and turn right onto Grundel Way. Continue to walk down the street until the first sidewalk on your right (Bison Lane). Continue south on that sidewalk for approximately .25 miles until you see the construction area with the Habitat fence. There is no street parking available on Bison Lane, you must use the designated parking area. Please try to carpool if you can!
How long is the volunteer day?
Please be parked on site and checked in at the volunteer trailer by 8:30AM. This will ensure plenty of time to register and be ready for the morning huddle. The day will finish by 4:00PM. If we are ahead of schedule, we may finish up earlier. If members of your group need to arrive late or depart early, please let the Volunteer Coordinator know.
What to expect when you arrive:
You will check in with the Volunteer Coordinator, Cassie. Once all volunteers have arrived, we will do introductions, safety training and stretching, and go over the day’s task assignments. Tasks could include framing, landscaping, painting, window/door installation, interior work and cleanup. Tasks vary depending on the time of year and stage of construction. NO CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
What should I wear?
Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes (no crocs) or work boots, as well as clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or stained. Dress in layers as you may be moving between indoor and outdoor tasks. You might want to bring a hat and/or sunglasses for outside work.
What should I bring?
The most important thing to bring is a willingness to work hard and have fun! You are welcome to bring your own work gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, small tools, and tool belt. Please make sure your own tools are clearly marked with your name. If you don’t have tools or gloves, no problem, we have plenty. Please bring a reusable water bottle. We will have water, coffee, and snacks on the site. Lunch is not provided, but if groups would like to provide lunch for their team, Habitat can assist in coordination. Please ask the Volunteer Coordinator for details.
Who will I be working with?
You will be working with our future homeowners, regular volunteers, construction staff, and our AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leaders. AmeriCorps members serve with us for 10.5 months, putting in 1700+ volunteer hours.
What if my plans change?

Who are Habitat future homeowners?
Habitat future homeowners are hardworking locals who are in need of a stable home. They are ready for homeownership, have an ability to pay a mortgage, and have a willingness to volunteer over 250 hours per adult applicant. Building their Habitat home provides an experience and a place from which they can build strength, self-reliance and stability. Please join us and work alongside these amazing members of our community!
Our homes: Habitat homes are simple, decent, affordable and energy efficient. We rely on volunteer support to continue to serve families throughout our community. Together, we can build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

¿Cuánto dura la jornada de voluntariado?
Por favor, estacionen sus vehículos en el lugar indicado y regístrense en la caravana de voluntarios antes de las 8:30 a.m. Esto les dará tiempo suficiente para registrarse y estar listos para la reunión informativa de la mañana. La jornada finalizará a las 4:00 p. m. Si terminamos antes de lo previsto, podríamos finalizar antes. Si algún miembro de su grupo necesita llegar tarde o irse temprano, por favor, infórmenle al coordinador de voluntarios.
Qué esperar al llegar:
Deberán registrarse con la coordinadora de voluntarios, Cassie. Una vez que todos los voluntarios hayan llegado, nos presentaremos, recibiremos capacitación en seguridad, haremos ejercicios de estiramiento y repasaremos las tareas del día. Las tareas pueden incluir construcción de estructuras, jardinería, pintura, instalación de ventanas y puertas, trabajos de interior y limpieza. Las tareas varían según la época del año y la etapa de construcción. ¡NO SE REQUIERE EXPERIENCIA EN CONSTRUCCIÓN!
¿Qué debo ponerme?
Por favor, use calzado resistente y cerrado (no sandalias tipo Crocs) o botas de trabajo, así como ropa que no le importe ensuciar o manchar. Vístase por capas, ya que realizará tareas tanto en interiores como en exteriores. Le recomendamos traer un sombrero y/o gafas de sol para trabajar al aire libre.
¿Qué debo traer?
Lo más importante que deben traer es la disposición para trabajar duro y divertirse. Pueden traer sus propios guantes de trabajo, gafas de sol, protector solar, herramientas pequeñas y cinturón de herramientas. Asegúrense de que sus herramientas estén claramente marcadas con su nombre. Si no tienen herramientas o guantes, no hay problema, nosotros tenemos suficientes. Por favor, traigan una botella de agua reutilizable. Tendremos agua, café y refrigerios en el lugar. No se proporciona almuerzo, pero si algún grupo desea proporcionar el almuerzo para su equipo, Habitat puede ayudar con la coordinación. ¿Con quién trabajaré?
Trabajará con los futuros propietarios de las viviendas, voluntarios habituales, personal de construcción y los líderes del equipo de construcción de AmeriCorps. Los miembros de AmeriCorps colaboran con nosotros durante 10,5 meses, dedicando más de 1700 horas de voluntariado.
¿Qué pasa si mis planes cambian?
Habitat depende de su participación para que nuestro proyecto se mantenga dentro del plazo previsto. ¡Le necesitamos!
