Thank you for joining Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley to build homes, community, and hope! Here is information about what you can expect for your day on our job site.
Where is the build site located?
Habitat for Humanity is currently building homes at Stratton Flats in Gypsum. The job site address is 230 Nighthawk Circle, Gypsum, CO 81637. Parking is available in the empty lot to the east of the construction office trailers. Please try to carpool if you can!
PLEASE BE ON SITE AND PARKED BY 8:30AM. This will ensure plenty of time to register and be ready for the morning huddle and safety briefing. The day will finish by 4:00PM. If we are ahead of schedule, we may finish up earlier.
What to expect when you arrive:
Please proceed through the open gates indicating, “Volunteer Check In” and walk straight ahead to the tan volunteer trailer. You will check in with the Volunteer Coordinator, Cassie. Once all volunteers have arrived, we will do introductions and go over the day’s task assignments. Tasks could be anything including framing, landscaping, painting, window/door installation, interior work and cleanup. Tasks vary depending on the time of year and stage of construction. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
What should I wear?
Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes (no crocs) or work boots as well as clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or stained! Dress in layers as you may be moving between indoor and outdoor tasks. You might want to bring a hat and/or sunglasses for outside work.
What should I bring?
The most important thing to bring is a willingness to work hard and have fun! You are welcome to bring your own work gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, small tools, and tool belt. Please make sure your own tools are clearly marked with your name. If you don’t have tools or gloves, no problem, we have plenty.
Do I bring my own food and drinks?
We will have water, coffee and snacks on site. Please bring a reusable water bottle. There are a refrigerator and microwave to use for your lunch.
What if my plans change?
Habitat relies on your participation in order to keep our project on schedule. If your schedule changes before your volunteer day, please use the cancellation link in your registration confirmation email to cancel your shift. Who will I be working with?
You will be working with our future homeowners, regular volunteers, construction staff and our AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leaders. AmeriCorps members serve with us for 10.5 months putting in 1700+ volunteer hours.
Who are Habitat partner families?
Habitat families are hardworking locals who are in need of a hand UP. They have a need for a stable home, are ready for homeownership, displaying an ability to pay a mortgage, and have a willingness to volunteer over 250 hours per adult member of the family. Building their Habitat home provides an experience and a place from which they can build strength, self-reliance and stability. Please join us and work alongside these amazing members of our community!
Our homes: Habitat homes are simple, decent, affordable and energy efficient.
Youth volunteers: Construction sites and the activities that take place are inherently dangerous for children. Habitat understands that the job site can provide a great learning experience for children but requires that when children are present, they are adequately supervised and working directly with their parent or guardian or another adult volunteer.
Youth volunteer age guidelines:
· Volunteers 18 years old or older may participate in all construction activities.
· Ultra hazardous activities such as using power tools, excavation, demolition or working on rooftops is not permitted by anyone under the age of 18.
· 16 and 17 year olds can perform limited, safe construction activities under the direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian or another adult volunteer.
· 14 and 15 year olds can help with non-construction activities, such as cleaning, organizing and landscaping, as long as they are removed from any areas where power tools and heavy machinery are in use or where work is being performed above them. 14 and 15 year olds must work under the direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian or another adult volunteer.
· Children under the age of 14 are not permitted on the job site.

Una vez que hayan llegado todos los voluntarios, haremos las presentaciones y repasaremos las tareas asignadas del día. Las tareas pueden ser cualquier cosa, incluyendo enmarcado, paisajismo, pintura, instalación de ventanas/puertas, trabajo interior y limpieza. Las tareas varían según la época del año y la etapa de construcción. ¡NO SE NECESITA EXPERIENCIA!
¿Que deberia vestir?
¡Use zapatos cerrados y resistentes (sin cocodrilos) o botas de trabajo, así como ropa que no le importe ensuciar o manchar! Vístase en capas ya que es posible que tenga que pasar de tareas en el interior y al aire libre. Es posible que desees traer un sombrero y/o gafas de sol para trabajar al aire libre.
¿Que deberia llevar?
¡Lo más importante que debes aportar es la voluntad de trabajar duro y divertirte! Le invitamos a traer sus propios guantes de trabajo, gafas de sol, protector solar, herramientas pequeñas y cinturón de herramientas. Asegúrese de que sus propias herramientas estén claramente marcadas con su nombre. Si no tienes herramientas ni guantes, no hay problema, tenemos suficientes.
¿Traigo mi propia comida y bebida?
Tendremos agua, café y snacks en el lugar. Por favor traiga una botella de agua reutilizable. Hay un refrigerador y un microondas para usar en el almuerzo.
¿Qué pasa si mis planes cambian?
Habitat depende de su participación para mantener nuestro proyecto dentro del cronograma. Si su horario cambia antes de su día de voluntariado, utilice el enlace de cancelación en su correo electrónico de confirmación de registro para cancelar su turno. ¿Con quién estaré trabajando?

Jóvenes voluntarios: Las obras de construcción y las actividades que se llevan a cabo son inherentemente peligrosas para los niños. Habitat entiende que el lugar de trabajo puede brindar una excelente experiencia de aprendizaje para los niños, pero requiere que cuando los niños estén presentes, estén adecuadamente supervisados ??y trabajen directamente con sus padres o tutores u otro adulto voluntario.
Pautas de edad para voluntarios jóvenes:
- Los voluntarios mayores de 18 años pueden participar en todas las actividades de construcción.
- Las actividades ultrapeligrosas, como el uso de herramientas eléctricas, la excavación, la demolición o el trabajo en tejados, no están permitidas por menores de 18 años.
- Los jóvenes de 16 y 17 años pueden realizar actividades de construcción limitadas y seguras bajo la supervisión directa de sus padres o tutor legal u otro adulto voluntario.
- Los jóvenes de 14 y 15 años pueden ayudar con actividades no relacionadas con la construcción, como limpieza, organización y jardinería, siempre y cuando se retiren de cualquier área donde se utilicen herramientas eléctricas y maquinaria pesada o donde se realice trabajo encima de ellas. Los jóvenes de 14 y 15 años deben trabajar bajo la supervisión directa de sus padres o tutor legal u otro adulto voluntario.
- No se permiten niños menores de 14 años en el lugar de trabajo.
