Girls play house, women build them! We’re bringing women (men welcome, too) together to be part of a Habitat build – an incredibly empowering experience and an opportunity to roll up your sleeves, swing a hammer and contribute to a cause that provides life-changing opportunities to deserving families. We have 50 spots to fill each day! Diva Days are sponsored by Thrivent Financial and Vail Daily.

Volunteer Tasks:  There's a seemingly never-ending list of volunteer jobs on the construction site.  While subcontractors perform licensed work, such as electrical, mechanical, and plumbing, our volunteers are heavily involved in most other areas of construction.  Volunteers should expect to work on tasks such as framing, landscaping, painting, window and door installation, and interior work. Tasks vary depending on the time of year and stage of construction.

Youth volunteers:  Construction sites and the activities that take place are inherently dangerous for children.  Habitat understands that the job site can provide a great learning experience for children but requires that when children are present, they are adequately supervised. Children may work directly with their parent or guardian or another adult volunteer with whom their parent has appointed to be their chaperone.  Youth volunteer age guidelines are as follows:

  • Volunteers 18 years old or older may participate in all construction activities.

  • Ultra hazardous activities such as using power tools, excavation, demolition, or working on rooftops is not permitted by anyone under the age of 18.

  • 16 and 17-year-olds can perform limited, safe construction activities under the direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian or another adult volunteer whom their parent or guardian has appointed in writing to be their chaperone.

  • 14 and 15-year-olds can help with non-construction activities, such as cleaning, organizing, and landscaping, as long as they are removed from any areas where power tools and heavy machinery are in use or where work is being performed above them.  14 and 15-year-olds must work under the direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian or another adult volunteer whom their parent or guardian has appointed in writing to be their chaperone.

  • Children under the age of 14 are not permitted on the job site.

Our homes:  Habitat homes are simple, decent, affordable, and energy-efficient.  Typically they are built according to the size of the family, with up to 2 children of the same sex per bedroom.  They have a full kitchen, washer & dryer, and 1 1/2 baths.  Habitat builds to LEED for Homes standards to ensure that the homes are energy efficient to keep utility costs down.

Our families:  Habitat families are hard-working citizens or legal permanent residents who need a hand UP.  They are ready for homeownership, displaying great ABILITY TO PAY a mortgage with a stable job history and great credit and a WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER and volunteer for 250 hours of sweat equity per adult member of the family.  They have a NEED for a stable home and may come from a home that is in poor shape, or their housing costs might be too high, or they might be overcrowded.  Building their Habitat home provides an experience and a place from which they can make strength, self-reliance, and stability.  Please join us and work alongside these amazing members of our community!
